Turkish earthquake survivor trapped for 5 days
Friday, October 28,  2011

After turkey was struck by a powerful earthquake on Monday, a 13 year old boy was trapped under wreckage from the earthquake. Ferhat Tokay was just discovered today after being trapped for 5 days.  Just a while before the boy was discovered, workers told the boys uncle and relatives to leave the sight and get some rest because there was no chance of finding him. The boy was amazingly able to survive by drinking rain water the would drip off pieces of wreckage. He also put shoes under his had for a pillow and looked threw the crack in the wreckage to see what time of day it was. Amazingly the boy was not even injured once taken out of the wreckage.

The earthquake was a 7.2 on the quake scale and it did a huge number on the town. the quake killed 573 people and injured 2,500. The quake destroyed about 2,000 buildings. It left thousands of people homeless.
Turkish rescuers tend to Ferhat Tokay, 13, after he was pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building in Ercis early Friday.

I think that this story is some what of a miracle mostly because of the fact that the boy was able to survive while being barred in wreckage for 5 days. This boy is extremely brave for what he did. The boy was obviously terrified for many different reasons. He would have been wondering if anybody would ever come rescue him but he still kept himself alive by persevering. Drinking rain water, using shoes for pillows and peering through cracks of wreckage to see what time of day it is. I cant even imagine living this way for 5 whole days while in the back of your head is always the thought that maybe nobody will ever find you.I also cant imagine how happy and relived  the boys family and relatives must have been once they heard the news that there boy had been found and that he is completely okay. This is truly a remarkable story.
