Sargent Gilad Shilat has been in captivity for five years as a hostage in Gaza. He returned back to his home in Israel on Teusday morning. The soldier was abducted on June 25, 2006. Gilad Shilat was 24 years old at the time. The soldier was patrolling an area when he was captured. He was released at the very same spot he was captured from on Tuesday.
Sargent Gilad Shilat was brought back to Israel in a pick up truck. When he got out of the truck he looked extremely pale, thin and dazed, which are the results of being under captivity for 5 years. He was extremely happy to get home and see his family and friends again after being away from them for 5 years. He said that he was afraid he would be in captivity for "many more years".
I can not imagine how happy he would have been when he first saw his family and all his friends after being away from them for 5 years. I think this would ruin his life, I know it would ruin mine. things just wouldn't be the same if I was in captivity for 5 years.
That would be the worst five years anyone could ever have. I can't even imagine what they put him through each and every day. This would be a very traumatizing experience for someone in their life, and it would be very hard to have the same outlook on life. I have seen some movies/documentaries that show what a person that has been helped captive goes through mentally for the rest of his life. The family of this young 24 year old must have been an absolute wreck, not been able to sleep at night, and been trying to find him every day he has been gone. This is a very tragic story that I would never want to have to go through.
