Dairy farmer Michael Schmidt is on a hunger strike after he fought to legalize the sale of raw milk and reached another problem. on Wednesday afternoon. Schmidt was told that he'd been convicted of 15 provincial offences connected to the sale of unpasteurized milk. He could face hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, including $5000 for each day he continues to produce his milk. Schmidt who is the owner of Glencolton farms in Durham, Ontario, has started a hunger strike which began on Thursday night. he has decided to drink just one glass of his own milk a day. his plan is that by doing this he will start a public debate on food regulation.
I think this is an interesting story. Michael Schmidt shouldn't be able to sell this milk so I think that it is right for him to serve these fines although its not right for him to go on a hunger strike. A hunger strike definitely isn't the greatest way to solve a problem like this. He should just realize and accept the fact that he cant sell this kind of milk and he should either change the type of milk he sells or just find a new career path.
