A soldier who was part of a rescue crew has died trying to rescues 2 boaters. The rescue crew received a call about 2 boaters that had become stranded in a storm off the coast of Nunavut. The rescue crew dropped a radio down to the boaters so that they could communicate with them. Once the crew learned that the health of one of the boaters was not good the realized that this would be tougher than they thought. Once communication with the radio was lost. sgt. Janick Gilbert and 2 other member of the rescue team parachuted out of an aircraft in order to save the 2 boaters. The two boaters and 2 of the rescue men waited for a helicopter to come pick them up and bring them to Igloolik. sgt. Janick Gilbert was lost during the mission and the cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Sgt. Janick Gilbert, who was involved in the rescue of two people stranded on a boat in Nunavut, has died. (Department of National Defence)        I have a ton of respect for the man that died trying to save these 2 boaters lives. He lost his life serving his country and in the line of duty. People who are in the army and rescues crews like this are among the bravest people on earth. They know what they will be going threw and they know that they could die any day but the still do there jobs and serve our country. Without people like this in the world nobody would be inspired to do great things. The two boater are very lucky that there were people brave enough to throw themselves into a life threatening position in order to save other peoples lives. This is a very unselfish and brave act. I have tons of respect for people like sgt. Janick Gilbert and i am glade that we have people like this in our world.
